Guide

Compose your flower arrangment

1

The harmony of the arrangement is the first thing to consider. Here, we wanted to gently evoke Christmas. ... For this arrangement: We’ve chosen a mixture of several varieties that go together. The idea was to mix several stems, large ones like dahlias with finer ones, called florets, like astrantia.  You can also make it monochrome, or choose several main colours, or even go for a single variety: anything is possible! 2

cleaning the stems, removing excess foliage.  The aim is to have clean stems to make the arrangement last longer and to create a proper spiral.

3

Set out all the stems on a worktop by variety, this will give you a clearer view of the overall look.

4

Then, start on the "spiral", holding the stems in one hand and adding them one by one, selecting different varieties. As soon as a stem is added, rotate the arrangement through a quarter turn. Quick tip: start with a large flower or a big twig, it's easier.

5

Build the arrangement by adding to the spiral, while considering the heights of the arrangement, meaning the flowers should be put higher up, like the scabious, to create a more striking effect.

6

Now, the arrangement should be tied, either with florist's tape, stem wrap or string. Tie the stems tightly but be careful not to crush them!

7

Now trim the stems so that they reach the right height in the vase.  You can leave the stems a little longer even if you have to trim them later.

8

Don 't forget to change the water every 2 days and cut a centimetre off the stems to make your arrangement last longer.

9

All you have to do now... is put it where you want it! In the centre of a table, on a sideboard that needs a Christmas makeover, in the guest bedroom... Up to you!
