Our sofa
buying guide
The sofa is a key piece of furniture in any living room. It's the centrepiece that sets the tone for your decor and should provide all the comfort you expect. Therefore, it's important to choose it carefully. But what criteria should you consider to be sure you're selecting the right sofa? Follow our advice to find the sofa that best suits your needs.
How to choose your model
Straight sofas
The straight sofa is the ultimate standard piece that suits any type of interior. It generally offers between 2 and 5 seats. The number of seats you need depends on the number of people in your household, the space available in your living room, and how often you entertain friends and guests.
Feel free to measure the space in your room: A 2-seater sofa in a large room will look less harmonious than in a smaller space. Conversely, a sofa that is too large will overwhelm your room if it isn't spacious enough.
When taking measurements, we suggest allowing 70 cm or 80 cm per seat.
Also, remember to check the accessibility of your home, especially your front door.
Corner sofas
To accommodate several guests and structure your room, there's nothing like a corner sofa.
A corner sofa consists of 2 parts:
- A chaise longue (also called a daybed) which is the element on the right or left.
- A 2 or 3-seater section, recognisable by the armrest at its end.
Right or left corner, make the right choice: the position of the sofa's corner is specified according to a standard description found in our product sheets. To determine it, simply stand in front of your sofa:
- When you are standing in front of your sofa and the chaise longue is on your left, it is a left-hand corner sofa.
- When you are standing in front of your sofa and the chaise longue is on your right, it is a right-hand corner sofa.
Feel free to stand in front of the spot where you will place your future corner sofa and imagine its position.
Here too, remember to measure the available space in your room and check its accessibility.

How to choose a comfortable sofa
Comfort is essential when choosing your sofa. This depends on the type of suspension, the composition of your seat, and its density.
Comfort is essential when choosing your sofa. This depends on the type of suspension, the composition of your seat, and its density.
The suspension
The seat suspension is the system that supports the weight of the cushions and users. It's this system that gives the sofa its comfort. There are several types of suspension: Fabric webbing, metal webbing, and springs.
Fabric webbing
These are straps that are assembled between the front and back rails of the sofa. The straps offer better comfort than springs. This is the case for our Woodnest range of sofas, which have elastic straps.
Metal webbing
Springs
They use the same technology as a mattress. They are used, for example, for our Hoya sofa range. Springs will be more durable over time than fabric webbing.
The composition
Your sofa's filling is made of either feathers or foam.
Feather: for exceptional seating comfort
Feather is a very high-quality filling that offers a soft feel while guaranteeing exceptional and firm support with use. This is the case for our Woodnest sofa range. To prevent your cushions from flattening and losing their shape, we advise you to plump them 2 to 3 times a week to restore their volume. Don't hesitate to unzip them when you plump them (they have removable covers). By letting air inside, you will restore their shape even more. They will only look more beautiful in the long run.
To improve the support of this type of filling, you can also add a square of high-density foam to customise your comfort.
Foam: for optimal seating comfort
We offer 4 types of foam at Tikamoon:
Polyester foam
Polyester foam is the most basic of foams. It offers good value for money and standard comfort. This is the case for our Lars and Finn sofa ranges.
Polyethylene foam
This foam is made from polyethylene, one of the most commonly used plastics in the world. The cells of this type of foam are closed, giving it exceptional properties and resistance to compression. This is the case for our Metric sofa.
High Resilience (HR) foam
High Resilience foam combines great comfort and durability, even with intensive use. This type of filling is used for our Bjorn sofas, which have a density of 35 kg/m³. This foam has a honeycomb structure that allows air to circulate within the material. As a result, it has a good ability to return to its original shape after pressure has been applied.
Foam complexes
This is a superposition of layers of different densities to obtain better seating comfort with a "soft feel". This kind of complex is often used on high-end sofas. This is the case for our Hoya sofa range.
Density
The density of a foam is measured in kg/m³ and offers different types of comfort: soft, medium-firm, very firm. The lower the density, the softer the foam will be. Conversely, the higher the density, the harder the foam will be.
At Tikamoon, we offer 3 levels of density for the seat:
30 kg/m³: Soft comfort. This is the case, for example, with our Fado collection.
35kg/m³: Medium-firm comfort. This is the case, for example, with our Cobbelwood sofa and Lars.
+40kg/m³: Firm comfort. This is the case, for example, with our Yas sofa.
For a seat, the density is around 30 to 35 kg/m³.
For a backrest, the density is around 20 to 28 kg/m³.

What are seating dimensions?
Seat heights generally vary from 40 to 50 cm. To know exactly the seat height you need, we invite you to sit against the back of the seat and check that your feet touch the ground flat.
The seat depth, on the other hand, is the length between the base of the backrest and the edge of the sofa where you are seated. Standard dimensions are between 50 and 60 cm but can go up to 70 cm.
For the backrest height, allow between 45 and 60 cm. We advise you to opt for high backrests for more comfort.
We invite you to consult our technical information, under the "Seat dimensions" section, to guide you and to click on "detailed dimensions" at the bottom of our product sheets to access our simplified technical drawings.
