Modern design is busy…

Furnishing a room can sometimes seem like a daunting proposition. There are lots of options available to us, in terms decor and the furniture, and tonnes of new styles. The temptation can be to go for something super modern, that says, welcome to the 2015.

This often means going for furniture made from plastic, glass or metal that has sharp angles and a striking colour scheme. These modern styles are often striking to look at. Each piece stands up and fights for attention with the others and draws the eye.  And if you get it right, the effect can be appealing, in a loud dramatic way. However, the chances are you might end up with something resembling a piece of modern art. It is certainly eye catching and fun to look at in a museum, but you are unlikely to want to put it on your wall at home. A still, more troubling problem is that styles change. It is inevitable that designers will develop more creative and original designs next year and before long you will have something that is very obviously out of fashion.

Modern art is busy. It’s rarely calm and relaxing. It takes a lot of skill to produce a piece of modern artwork that is unquestionably beautiful

The alternative

The alternative is to opt for something a little more… timeless. More traditional furniture styles, made from natural wood, offer something unique.
